Totem Pole Insect Characters

Totempole craft patterns and templates may be used for teaching children a variety of crafty skills. Insect designs on totem poles appear very similar to bird characters and can be difficult to recognize in totem pole art. Mosquitoes are quite prevalent in rain forests where tall trees grow so it is common to find mosquitoes carved into totem poles.

Mythology claims any wild creature that tries to steal children to eat are caught, burned then transformed into mosquitoes which are, in turn, eaten by birds.

An ant character could represent positive qualities such as determination, patience and hard working aspects of a clan or artist. The butterfly might portray grace and metamorphosis or the ability to accept change. A Bumble bee character might represent an organized and wise community or celebration of life.
